Not too long ago, I had a career that I absolutely hated.

I would wake up everyday dreading to go to work and always left feeling overworked and unfulfilled. I was suffering mentally, financially and was within months of giving birth to my daughter which meant I would be adding another responsibility to the mix.

So, I had to make a choice.

I considered going back to college as a full-time student, however time was against me.

I had a baby on the way and only had enough money saved to keep me afloat for a little over a year. Looking at my available resources,  I knew I needed a career with low start-up costs and a high return on investment.

Becoming a Real Estate Agent was one of the first careers that came to my mind.

As I began my research, the career became more and more appealing. After a few months of hesitation, I decided to make the leap despite many naysayers and I have never looked back.

Below I have listed the top 5 reasons I became a Real Estate Agent and maybe why you should consider this career too!


Top 5 Reasons to Become a Real Estate Agent


1.Freedom of Schedule

Yes, I know you’ve probably heard a story or two of Real Estate Agents being on call 24/7, running around and driving the gas out of their cars to take their clients to see houses that they are never going to buy.

Yeah, only rookie Real Estate Agents do that. 

And by “rookie”, I mean Agents that are disorganized. Most agents, including myself, follow a rigid schedule along with set working hours throughout the day. Most Agents operate like any other business in regards to scheduling and setting appointments with clients.  As a Real Estate Agent you are in control of your hours and you decided when and how you are going to work them.

2.Unlimited Income

There’s no cap on how much Real Estate you can sell. This means that you can earn as much money as you want. People are always renting, buying, selling and investing in real estate so your income is virtually limitless. It all begins with setting your goal. If you wish to make $100,000 in a year you simply calculate how many transactions you need to complete then create and implement a business plan to do just that.


As a Real Estate Agent you are in the business of people. You will make a ton of friends throughout your career and may have the opportunity to work with people or real estate that’s worth millions.

Getting referral business from your network is one of many ways Real Estate Agents maintain consistent income without having to spend much on marketing. Word of mouth is everything! It only takes a few clients to refer you to their friends and family members to get your business going.

4.No College Degree Required

Attending college is pretty expensive unless you have scholarships, grants or another source of income that can help pay your tuition in full every semester. One great thing about being a Real Estate Agent is that anyone over the age of 18 can get started.  It’s a great way for those that were unable to attend college to earn money while enjoying a career that is meaningful, rewarding and fun!

5.Be Your Own Boss

As a Real Estate Agent you will work under a supervising Broker. However, the Broker’s main priorities are to oversee transactions and provide training. That’s about it.

You work under your own business entity as an independent contractor until you leave your brokerage or decide to become a Broker yourself (which, in most states, only takes 2 to 3 years!). As a Real Estate Agent, you are self-employed. You have complete freedom of where, how and when you work.


So there you have it! Those are my top 5 reasons why I became a Real Estate Agent. I truly enjoy being in this career not only because of how gratifying it is but because it also appeals to my sense of creativity, freedom and personality. Whether you decide to become a part-time or full-time Real Estate Agent, it definitely comes with its perks.
