I never imagined that I would be running my own business in my 20s.
When I graduated from high school, I had many different dreams and aspirations but becoming a business owner wasn’t one of them.
After dealing with brain-numbing job after job, I decided that I had enough and honestly I wanted more for myself and my family.
So, I made a giant leap into entrepreneurship and I have never looked back.
In this post I will share with you 5 tips on how to become self-made, overcome fear and to start your business on the right track.

Entrepreneurship is scary.
We hear so many bad things about owning your own business that many of us will give up on our dreams and decide to work for someone else.
Before I decided to start my own business, I made a fatal mistake of telling others what I planned to do and the feedback was heartbreaking. Everyone had something to add, or some horror story to tell that was extremely discouraging and made me begin to doubt myself.
Then I stumbled upon a book called The 10x Rule by Grant Cardone.
This book changed my life. It’s a book that I refer to several times to get myself back on track. Whenever, I begin to doubt the direction my business is going in, I flip this book open for another read.
After deciding to become a full-time Real Estate Agent less than a year ago, I have created several streams of income that allow me to live a life that I truly enjoy.
There’s nothing like owning your own business and doing things the way that you want. Even though entrepreneurship comes with a few challenges, the outcome is always worthwhile. Keep reading to learn what it takes to become self-made.
A Millennial’s Guide to Being an Entrepreneur
1. Create a Business Plan
This is the first and most vital step that you can take to start your business on the right track. A huge mistake I made in the beginning of starting my own business was thinking that I could “wing it”. Boy, was I wrong! You have to have a foundation. There isn’t a single business that rose to prominence without having a solid business structure in place.
Learn everything you can about your business. You have to stay on top of the latest trends and you must know who are the major influencers in your industry. Watch and learn from them. Read every book, article or other information about your industry that you can get your hands on. Your ultimate goal is to become an expert and have the track record to prove it.
3.There is No Overnight Success
You have to plant the seeds for tomorrow, today.
There are several people that appear to have become overnight successes but trust me there was a lot of blood, sweat and tears to get there. One of my favorite mentors, Gary Vaynerchuk and self-made millionaire, said it best, “You need to put in the time and actual work”. There’s no other way around it. If you want to succeed in business you have to work your ass off, sacrifice some weekends and go all in until you can begin to enjoy the fruits of your labor.
4.You Have to Commit
There were several days when I wanted to quit. I wanted to step back into my circle of safety aka finding another 9-5 job but I knew deep inside that I would never be happy working for someone else again. I was committed to my dream, goals and living a life that I wanted on my terms. Even the days when I felt my absolute worst, I would still go out and find Clients. You have to have unwavering faith and be willing to commit to your success, no matter what.
5.You Have to Love What You Do
Fall in love with the process.
Yes, you will have to work hard and there may be days where you don’t get a chance to eat or sleep. But you must love the good and bad days equally.
Savoring the process and knowing how hard you had to work to finally reach your goals is extremely gratifying and humbling. Go all in on your passion but go in with the understanding that there will be days that suck. However, when those sunny days come back around only then will you truly enjoy basking in the rays of your success.
